Talking to yourself isn’t just quirky—it’s a game-changer for getting to the heart of what matters. In intense moments, like prepping for high-stakes coaching sessions or big personal decisions, I’ll cut right through my own mental static with straightforward self-talk. I’ll say, “Stick to the facts,” or, “Get clear on your end game,” and it’s like flipping a switch from doubt to decisiveness. Speaking out loud turns my focus razor-sharp; I’m no longer battling thoughts silently but getting right into action mode.

For decision-making, self-talk out loud can make biases obvious. When I hear myself list pros and cons, I’ll catch a hint of hesitation or conviction that I wouldn’t notice internally. It’s like setting up a verbal spotlight on what I might be avoiding or overthinking. This isn’t just positive self-talk; it’s strategy. And people do notice—some find it refreshing and ask if they should try it too. There’s a reason self-talk is a tool I swear by: it’s as close as you get to having a personal coach in real time, clarifying priorities and backing up your choices when it matters most.
